Gaston County has implemented new security measures in all of its 56 schools. After the tragedy in Newtown, Gaston County Schools formed a safety task force to figure out how they could better protect their schools. They have decided to install a new identification checker.

Visitors will have to scan their ID into a computer system. They will then receive a badge to wear while in the school. Visitors will also need to check out by scanning their badge at the front office before they leave. Student also need to check in and out when leaving school during class hours.

Administrators say it is important to know who is inside the school at all times and when they have exited. In the event of an emergency, the school wants to be able to pull up a lit of all visitors and be able to monitor whether or not they are still inside the building.
