    I’m a local boy from Claremont, North Carolina. I attended Western Carolina University where I received a B.S. in Communication with a double concentration of broadcasting and journalism. While in college I was the General Manager of WWCU-FM and color commentated WCU football basketball games.

1 in 68. That is the ratio of children diagnosed with Autism (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls). This number was just released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on March 27.

In the year 2000, there wasn't as much information or general awareness of this disorder and that is was challenge Lisa Simone faced head on. Her son Jonathan (now 16) was just 2 when he was diagnosed with having Autism.

It is a challenge each day but she is hopeful, with the growing awareness of Autism, that there will one day be a treatment.

    Autism prevalence figures are growing
    Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
    Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
    Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
    There is no medical detection or cure for autism
