I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

If Wednesday's reports are true, it would mean Roger Goodell handed Ray Rice a two-game suspension after seeing the graphic video of his assault on Palmer. In light of this and other rumors and reports that continue to swirl, the league announced late Wednesday that former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III will conduct an independent investigation into the league's handling of Ray Rice.

Catawba Reservation, SC -

New developments are always contentious. Especially when they could force a state to revisit an issue they believed they dealt with decades ago.

Today the South Carolina supreme court ruled against the Catawba Tribe, deciding that they do not have the right to build a casino with video poker on reservation land.

South Carolina Senator Wes Hayes is adamant that gambling is a problem poses a huge problem for his state, calling video gambling the "crack cocaine" of gambling.

The Catawba Nation’s attorney Billy Wilkins disagrees. He thinks the absence of a new casino spells a loss for the community in the form of tremendous amount of revenue for the community.

Hayes believes the proposed loss of revenue is a farce. He said, "I don’t think it’s creating any wealth. It’s just playing on the addiction of other people.”

The Catwaba Nation’s next step is to seek land in North Carolina to build it’s casino and the tribe is now waiting for a decision from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs on wether or not the piece of the land they're eyeing can be placed in trust.
