West Chester Police Seek Man In Violent Purse Snatching

Posted: Updated:
WEST CHESTER, Pa. -

These surveillance pictures show a suspect in the moments before police say he robbed and attacked a 28-year old woman outside a West Chester Walgreens on North Bradford Avenue.

"I live right down the street. I've never seen anybody get robbed or seen any suspicious activity," said Joe Pellegrini.

Security cameras from Walgreens and a gas station across the street show the man pacing back and forth outside the store for a while around 7:45 Sunday night. As the victim was leaving the store police say the suspect tried to snatch her purse. The woman fought back, hitting the suspect several times before he got away with her wallet with cash and credit cards inside.

"I guess it would be a heat of the moment thing," said Katie Kearney as she left the store Tuesday evening. She's concerned but doesn't know if she would've fought back.

"It depends on what was in the purse and how seriously I felt. Whether I was fighting for my purse or my life," said Kearney.

Police say surveillance pictures also show several cars in the parking lot when the attack and robbery happened.

"There should've been more people around so I guess that is a little bit concerning," said shopper Megan DeFruscio.

Police hope someone pulling up or leaving the store at the time saw something and can help them identify the suspect.
