I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Saturday's soccer match between AC Milan and Liverpool at Bank of American Stadium has been declared an extraordinary event. More than 60,000 tickets have been sold for the game, and the city is expecting around 20,000 fans at the Champions Cup Sponsor Festival outside of the stadium before the game.

To some, the violence in Gaza seems a world away, but to one family here in Charlotte it is hitting far too close to home.

Courtney Burleson wasn't expecting yet another shock just days after learning of the death of her friend, but she got one after she read a Facebook comment left by South Carolina State Trooper Julian Bridges on the subject of the shooting death of Brandon Davis.

"As long as it's trash killing trash," Bridges wrote, "I'm not fussed about it. It's a self correcting error."

Davis, 17, was killed Sunday in a shooting that authorities are saying is drug related. But Clover mother Shari Franklin says that doesn’t matter.

"It doesn’t matter who did what or what people were involved, you don’t kill over something and you don’t celebrate somebody being killed. Regardless of what their lifestyle is like or what the rumors are that they’re involved in,” she said.

South Carolina Department of Public Safety couldn’t comment on the matter but they did give a statement.

"A matter was brought to our attention about an inappropriate comment made on a personal social media account bearing the name of Julian Bridges. Even though Trooper Bridges was not on duty at the time of this incident, the writer identified himself as a state trooper. Therefore, this matter has been turned over to our Office of Professional Responsibility for a proper investigation. We expect our personnel to hold themselves to a high standard of conduct -- whether on duty or off duty. The choice to make this comment is disappointing and does not represent the men and women of the South Carolina Highway Patrol who are working hard every day to protect the citizens of our state."

Burleson said she’s hoping for an apology for her and the families of the young men involved. She also says she hopes Trooper Bridges learns a lesson from all of this.

A bill requiring insurance to cover a popular educational therapy for children with autism passed overwhelmingly in the North Carolina House but it may die with lawmakers leaving soon for home for the summer. The North Carolina Senate never put the bill up for a vote.
