STEM is science, technology, engineering and math -- and it's coming to Charlotte March 28 through April 6 at the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

On Monday, former mayor Patrick Cannon signed off on declaring the timeframe STEM Week in Charlotte -- it was one of the last things he signed off on before being arrested.

Cory Riback is the man behind the play -- and in front -- as he portrays the main character -- Cory the Clown.

But Riback also has built the key components to this performance -- robots.

Riback says he has put on over 8,000 shows, including one on PBS. The purpose of Fun with Stem is to teach science, technology, engineering and math in a fun way.

Robots are one of several props for the show and afterwards, they teach children, and adults, on the importance of STEM in every-day life.

"They're going to see this fun, exciting show for 45 minutes with original music, dance, magic, juggling and all sorts of stuff like that," Riback said. "And at the end, after this fun time that they've had with all of this slapstick comedy, they get to learn that none of it could have happened without STEM.

"We show them how the robots worked and how everything was put together because of STEM...they leave, hopefully, inspired with something to do in all of that."

Riback and his partner Linda Watt stress that the show is for learning, but it's not "in-your-face" -- it's more entertainment.

"We want to inspire children to be interested in STEM and post-secondary education," Watt said. "So that they'll be interested in it because we show the robotics and eveything after -- but we don't put it in their face. It's really a fun time."

Be sure to check out Fun with STEM's official website for more information on dates, tickets and more.
