Lawyers Matthew Fleishman and Corey Rosensteel talked to MyFOXCarolinas's Barbara Pinson Lash about next steps for the government and Mayor Patrick Cannon's defense attorneys.
Fleishman believes the government has strong evidence against the Charlotte mayor. The complaint against the mayor denotes that the government had plenty of time to execute its undercover investigation, which included setting up an apartment to meet.
Rosenteel reminds us that so far, no one has heard the mayor's side of what the government alleges took place. He says Cannon's defense attorneys will probably advise him not to make any public comments, saving his side of the story for a possible trial.
A federal criminal complaint charges Mayor Cannon with theft and bribery. The FBI alleges Cannon solicited and accepted bribes from undercover agents posing as real estate agents.
Rosenteel says the complaint against Mayor Cannon sounds like something out of the movies. You can read the full complaint here.
