Undercover Agents Gave Mayor Cannon Briefcase of Money

Posted: Updated:
Charlotte, NC - The complaint filed against Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon describes several moments in which Cannon is alleged to have accepted bribes from undercover FBI agents.

One such incident, on page 28 or the complaint, describes a conversation the FBI says Mayor Cannon had with an undercover agent, called "UCE2" in the complaint.

The complaint says the agent gave Cannon a briefcase containing $20,000 cash.

The two discuss whether the agent should leave the briefcase in Mayor Cannon's office in the Government Center, because a city employee may notice the transfer.

The complaint says Cannon whispers, "I just got to be conscious about that kind of stuff here, you know."
