Charlotte, NC - The North Carolinas Republican Party is calling on Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon to resign immediately.

“Patrick Cannon should immediately resign as mayor of Charlotte following his arrest by the FBI on public corruption charges. Accepting monetary bribes, as Mr. Cannon has allegedly done, is an egregious and unforgivable breach of the public’s trust, and the taxpayers of Charlotte deserve much better. We hope the North Carolina Democratic Party will join us in calling on Patrick Cannon to step down.”

The NC GOP made the statement in response to Cannon's arrest on federal public corruption charges.

FBI agents arrested Cannon, 47, on Wednesday. The FBI alleges he solicited and accepted bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as real estate developers and investors wanting to do business with the city.
