CATS Looks to Increase Rates

Posted: Updated:
CATS is proposing an increase to transit fares and passes on all its services. If passed the rate increase would go into affect starting July 1, 2014. The fare increase would also include CATS Vanpool Service.

The cost of a one way ticket now for a bus or light rail is $2.00, if passed the price to ride would increase $0.20 for the one way ticket. If you ride twice a day, five day a week it would cost you an extra $100 for the year.

This proposal has some frequent riders upset. They believe that the price to ride is fair now and that an increase would cost too much money over a period of time.

The Metropolitan Transit Commission is holding a public hearing during their meeting on Wednesday the 26th. People wishing to voice their -concerns about the proposed rate increase are asked to sign-up to speak. To sign-up you can call 704-432-0872 or sign-up through email to mtcinterest@charlottenc.gov before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Charlotte Mecklenbug Government Center, Room 267.
