UPDATE: A UNC Charlotte student falls to his death

Posted: Updated:

A spokesman for UNC Charlotte released more information about a student who died early Sunday morning.

UNC Charlotte spokesperson, John Bland, says Joshua Robert Helm fell to his death from the 7th floor of Moore Hall, a 12-floor on campus residence hall. Helm was a 18-year-old freshman from Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Bland says that Charlotte- Mecklenburg Police are leading the investigation of the incident. Police say it’s a complex investigation and may require multiple resources. Students on campus were notified of Helm's death Sunday. Counseling services have been provided to those who need it.

Bland says, "The death of a student is a blow to the entire UNC Charlotte community. Most of all, Mr. Helm’s death is a tragedy for his family. We at UNC Charlotte keep them in our thoughts.”
