What's a chef who has cooked at two of the world's best restaurants and a pastry chef who trained in Paris doing at an out-of-the-way restaurant in Northwest Charlotte? Well, they are trying to create a destination spot drenched in all things North Carolina.
Everything at Heirloom is all about North Carolina. Restaurant writer Sarah Crosland recently visited with the owner and executive chef of Heirloom, Clarke Barlow, to see what his vision is for the restaurant.
"My family is from North Carolina and everything about this restaurant is about North Carolina", he said. "Not just the food, but the furniture, the music, even the beers and alcohol are from here."
Most of the ingredients in the food come from North Carolina farms and ranches, including a farm owned by Barlow's family. Even the bar features pictures from several generations of Barlow's family.
