Community School of the Arts is helping children reach their full, artistic potential.

The School launched a Vibrant Violins program that is part of their Middle School Strings Outreach.

Community School of the Arts goes to three different Title 1 Charlotte Mecklenburg elementary schools, two-times per week, to give music lessons. The Vibrant Violins program allows students that have moved on to middle school, to continue their lessons through an after-school program, each week.

The children are overwhelmingly low income, according to CSA.

The program is hosted through a unique organization -- Power2Give.org. Developed by the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte Mecklenburg in 2010 , the website offers a unique way for donors to contribute to art programs of their choice.

The Vibrant Violins Program recently reached their goal of $9,960 through the website.

Power2Give recently went over $5 million in donations since their inception.

"Nationally over our 24 communities, we've raised $5 million through personal donations and also sponsors matching donations," Project Assistant Virginia Garramone said. "So we're very pleased."

Charlotte, though, is their key market. It's where they've raised over $1.3 million.

"Just the reach here locally is amazing," Garramone said. "We've done projects from building eagle cams so you can see eagles at the Carolina Raptor Center. We've also had the chance to give 1,000 kids the opportunity to see The Lion King at the Blumenthal Performing Arts [Center]."

If a non-profit organization has received money from the Arts and Science Council in the last three years, they are eligible to host a project on Power2Give.org.

Projects can range from $5 to $10,000.

They can even be somewhat, light-hearted.

The Carolina Actors Studio Theatre took advantage of this unique way of fundraising -- for a new vacuum cleaner.

And for the top donor?

"You had the opportunity to take that bad-boy on it's first spin around the lobby," Garramone said.
