New Bike Lanes In Rock Hill

Posted: Updated:

Rock Hill has been dubbed a cycling city. But one local biker doesn’t agree the city has the infrastructure that supports that claim.

But now that the city has just added bike lanes along some streets by Winthrop, he thinks they are on the right path.

“I’m comfortable riding in traffic, but for those who aren’t comfortable, this will be a pretty big deal,” said Andrew Morrison.

Bike signs and lanes were added to portions of Charlotte Avenue, Elizabeth Lane, Oakland Avenue and Eden Terrace. On those streets you will see images of bikes on the far right hand lanes – signifying bike lanes.

“It just makes sense for us to foster more of a cycling culture,” said City of Rock Hill Planning and Development Director Bill Meyer.

Some of the lanes are strictly for bikers, while others are called “sharrows” meaning they are to be shared with bikers and drivers.

They chose those streets because they have less traffic.

“I think that people understand that in this area around campus, it just makes sense to have these additions made,” said Meyer.

Tell us what you think about the new lanes. Take a ride and let us know!
