HICKORY, NC - It has been more than three years since the murder of Zahra Baker rocked the Catawba Valley. The memory of this 10-year-old continues to touch the hearts of many in the area.

"This community embraced that little girl's story," said Chief Tom Adkins, Hickory Police. "Early on in the investigation, there was a lot of hope that we would find her and bring her home. Unfortunately that was not the case."

Baker was murdered in 2010. The investigation into her death and the search for clues brought national media attention. As a way to remember her, the town built a playground in Kiwanis Park. Now, the City of Hickory plans to honor Zahra with a sculpture that will be erected alongside the playground.

The sculpture is titled "Zahra's Whirled" and was created by Mike Roig. It will dedicated April 9, 2014 in Kiwanis Park.
