? The Carolina Panthers announced that quarterback Cam Newton will undergo an ankle procedure Wednesday at Carolinas Medical Center for soreness that has existed since the end of the season.
The surgery will be done by Panthers team physician Robert Anderson and will require a recovery of approximately four months, according to the team.
“The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it,” said Panthers Head Athletic Trainer Ryan Vermillion.
Newton threw for 3,379 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading Carolina to a 12-4 regular season record and the NFC South title.
