Mary Gingell is frustrated and worried sick about the car her husband drives almost 100 miles every day. His 2006 Chevy Cobalt is one of 2000 cars on a long list of recalls from General Motors for a faulty ignition switch, causing the vehicle's engines to shut off at high speeds.

Twelve people have been killed so far.

Last week FOX 2 reported in addition to $500 towards a new GM vehicle, owners could get loaner cars.

Gingell claims that's easier said than done.

"When I finally got a person, they informed me that the loaner car was at the discretion of the dealership and if they called the dealership and they didn't offer me a loaner car to keep trying until I found a dealership that would. And at the end of my conversation with him, he basically said good luck," Gingell tells FOX 2's Maurielle Lue.

Gingell says she called dealer after dealer looking for a loner car for her husband, but no one would help.

GM officials say they've asked all dealers to participate in the loaner program. "When we have heard of individual dealers opting out -- it's technically an optional program -- we have contacted them and asked them to reconsider," said James Cain.

Gingell says she eventually reached a dealer who told her she will be assisted with a loaner vehicle within 24 hours.

Cain says concerned owners can visit www.gm.com/ignition-switch-recall for more information.
