Wilmington Business Owner Arrested For Making False Report

Posted: Updated:
Wilmington, DE -

New Castle County Police have arrested a Wilmington business owner after he falsely reported a crime to the police.

Michael Wharton, 50, owner of The Amish Mill, called police on March 8 and reported that several subjects were walking on his property and that, according to a police statement, Wharton feared for his safety. Police investigated and concluded that it was a false statement.

On March 12th, Wharton was arrested on two counts of falsely reporting an incident to police. He was arraigned and issued $1,000.00 unsecured bail, and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution for violating his probation.

Officers say Wharton has had issues in the past with subjects picketing out front of his business. Police say they have responded multiple times this month for trespassing reports, all of which were unfounded.
