Harrisburg Hoping Benefits of Fire Station Outweigh Costs

Posted: Updated:
Realtor Chelsea Ludeke helps people find homes in Harrisburg, and she says it’s important for these people to be protected in their new community.

The protection she’s talking about is a new fire station being built just up the road from where she works.

Construction of the new fire station will start in about two months, aiming to bring peace of mind to the people who live in East Harrisburg, but it comes with a pretty big price tag. $1.55 million to be exact.

On paper, the project is already $300,000 over budget, but the bulk of that money will actually come from the Cabarrus County EMS, which will also call the new fire station home.

Harrisburg Fire Chief Bryan Dunn says the new station will lower response times – which are currently almost twice as long as their general goal - in East Harrisburg neighborhoods.
