On cold day in Charlotte, things heated up fast.

"Passion for the fans, passion for the game, and they're basically saying we care more about starting this young team,” says Carolina Panthers fan, Wilson Norman.

Norman has been a panthers fan since day one.

"When we got awarded the team on my daughter's birthday, I cried.  That's how passionate I am about football," he recalls.

Smith fans were angry, upset, and some fighting back tears, all over today's news about him being cut and they took it to the streets.

Charlene Clarke organized this fan rally outside of the team store at Bank of America Stadium. It was all to show support for no. 89.

"He's had his ups and downs with people and stuff. Overall, he's been a good guy....he's does what he's got to do," says Charlene.

Fans feel like they are doing what they have to do to be heard.

"We had a lot of good players who came out here to finish out their career," Norman said. "Steve Smith committed to the long-term so that he could stay a Panther and retire a Panther and the team doesn't care!"

Fans like Norman say their once fiery spark for the Panthers  has dimmed a little.

"I am very passionate about Steve Smith and the Panthers and I just don't see that passion remaining after this."
