State Trooper says Union County roads are dangerous

Union County, NC -

I'm working on a story about Union County roads. A 21 year old girl, Macy Campbell, recently lost her arm after running off New Salem Road in Monroe.

The picture shows her truck after the accident. Also yesterday, there was a deadly accident on Rocky River Road South near the SC state line.

All of this came from NC State Trooper John Burgin. He tells me a lot of drivers, especially young people, are running off the road in Union County because the roads are so narrow.

He says there's really only one main road in Union County - that's highway 74/Independence Boulevard. The rest of them are back roads and he says most of those roads don't have shoulders or rumble strips.

He says the small back roads aren't made for the growing population in Union County.

I'm heading to Union County to see what the roads are like and to speak with folks there. I want to know if they're concerned about the roads and if DOT plans to make any changes to make them safer.

Tell me what you think about the roads in Union County. You can connect with me on Twitter @FountainFOX46, Facebook or email caroline.fountain@foxtv.com
