CLT+ is hosting their Battle of the Bands with some of the region's freshest talent.

Eight acts are competing at NoDa's Evening Muse -- prizes will be awarded and the winner will perfrom on My Fox Carolinas' morning show this spring.

Wednesday night, was the first heat. Four bands competed. Fans vote for the winner, online. The next four compete April 23.

Battle of the Bands competitions are the perfect opportunity for bands looking to gain exposure.''

"It gives them an opportunity to get out in the local community and play their music," Evening Muse manager Don Koster said. "A quick half hour, people come in and get to sample four bands.

The bands that performed tonight were Tidalwave, Railz the Principle, The Genuine and Bearcat.

April will host Gabriel Jules, The High3r, Charlie King and Shannyn Casino.

The Genuine traveled from Winston Salem tonight. They've never played Charlotte before. Their leader, Matthew Allivato, thinks this is and ideal opportunity for their original music.

"It really, really gets to the right people," Allivato said. "The real grassroots movement of friends telling friends about a band and these are the type of people that are willing to support, come out, pay money to see shows and buy merchandise."

Win or lose -- all of these bands are at least gaining some exposure. Win or lose, it's all about the tunes.
