PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man re-arrested in the fatal shooting of a neighbor has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Court documents show Nicholas Philip Oakes is jailed in lieu of $1 million bond on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated harassment.

Oakes pleaded not guilty Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court. His initial pretrial conference is set for April 22.

Oakes initially was arrested immediately after the Sept. 6 shooting of neighbor Terry Maynard.

Authorities say the shooting followed alleged harassment of Maynard and another neighbor by Oakes.

A judge ruled in January that Oakes was incompetent to stand trial and was a danger to himself and others.

The judge also ordered that Oakes be confined at a behavioral health facility, where he was re-arrested in the case on Feb. 4.
