The Carolina Panthers have signed tight end/fullback Richie Brockel to a two-year contract and offensive lineman Garry Williams to a one-year contract before free agency, the team announced Monday. Brockel would have been a restricted free agent and Williams would have been an unrestricted free agent.
Brockel, 6-1 and 255 pounds, played in 16 games for Carolina in 2013, seeing action at fullback, tight end and on special teams.Williams, 6-3 and 315, started the 2013 season opener at right guard for Carolina but spent the rest of the season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the game.
Panthers Tender Offensive Linemen
The Carolina Panthers have tendered restricted free agent tackle Byron Bell and exclusive rights player guard Chris Scott, the team announced Monday.
Bell, 6-5 and 340 pounds, played in 16 games with 14 starts at right tackle for Carolina, clearing paths for the Panthers to rush for more than 100 yards in 14 games. Bell also started at right tackle in the NFC Divisional Playoff versus San Francisco. An undrafted free agent signing by the Panthers in 2011, Bell has started 41 of 47 career games played for the Panthers.
Scott, 6-4 and 320 pounds, played in 10 games with eight starts for Carolina in 2013 after being signed in training camp. Scott started the first eight games of the season, one at left guard and seven at right guard. He suffered a knee injury versus Atlanta (11/3/13) and was inactive for or did not play in the following six games. A fifth-round draft choice of Pittsburgh in 2010, Scott has played in 12 career games with eight starts.
