Union County parents and students held a rally to voice their disapproval of the Union County Public Schools redistricting plan. The topic of discussion brought nearly 300 people armed with signs, petitions, and strong opinions on what they believe was a dirty move by the Union County Board of Education.
The move in question was the rushed vote to redistrict the county's schools on Tuesday, March 4. The reason for the vote was due to what board members say is overcrowding in the county's schools. It was put in motion by long time board member, John Crowder. Some parents believe the move to redistrict was another member's idea, but that the unknown member had Crowder make the motion.
Crowder suffered a fatal stroke Sunday afternoon.
Parents are taking legal action by drafting a formal complaint against the board.
Around 3,200 students would be affected if this vote isn't overturned.
Another rally is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stallings Civic Center.
