A teen murder-suicide has left a community in shock. Phoenix Police say a 15 year-old high school student shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.
This happened just after noon Friday in the front yard of a north Phoenix residence. Both students were sophmores at Sandra Day O'Connor High School and they had recently separated from a relationship.
Fellow students came to the scene, leaving flowers, cards, and notes. Those who knew the victim could not believe what they were hearing.
Police identified the gunman was Matthew Bolton, the victim as Anastasia "Ana" Greer, the two had just ended a relationship together.
"It breaks my heart, I've known her for six and a half years, she was like a sister to me, I would have given anything to give her a hug one more time," said Alinda Hundson.
Friends describe Ana as kind hearted, giving, and said she had a bright future.
"She was always outgoing, fun, she will always be by your side even if you had a rough day no matter what it is," said Hundson.
authorities confirm that students told school officials at school that Bolton had a gun. They searched but could not find Bolton or the gun on campus. Neighbors reported hearing shots being fired just after noon when school let out.
A fundraising event was canceled at Sandra Day O'Connor High School Friday evening, the district is referring all questions on the incident to Phoenix Police.
