Hammer Attack Trial: Prosecution rests it's case

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Prosecutors rested their case Thursday in the trial of Marissa Devault. She's a former stripper who is accused of killer her husband with a hammer while he slept in their home to collect life insurance money.

Now the trial focuses on Devault's attorneys who have their turn to present her defense.

This has been a dramatic trial with a cast of colorful characters taking the stand including Devault's so called sugar daddy lover and her strip club ex boyfriend. Allen Flores is a key witness in this case. Prosecutors say Flores was Marissa Devault's lover they met through a website called seekingarrangements.com.

Flores described how it worked on the website, "typically the women who go on it say they're needing financial assistance of some sort and typically the men as part of the arrangement would offer some sort of contribution towards their expenses".

Prosecutors say he loaned her nearly 300 thousand dollars and the motive behind the murder was so that Devault could collect her husband's life insurance money and pay him back. Jurors also heard from an ex boyfriend who met Devault while she worked as a stripper.

Travis Tatro testified that Devault asked him to "take care" of her husband. "It didn't sound like she wanted a hitman just sounded like she wanted someone to slap him around a little bit... She had told me once she was trying to poison him with Tylenol (expletive) to wreck his stomach or something," he said.
