Kristen Anderson-Lopez took home an Oscar for Best Original Song on Sunday night. She co-wrote “Let It Go” from the Frozen movie soundtrack with her husband Robert Lopez.

Her father John Anderson watched the awards in the comfort of his own living room in Waxhaw. It was the latest he's stayed up in a while.

During her acceptance speech, Anderson-Lopez made sure she gave thanks to her biggest fans, her mom and dad.

She describes how it felt to walk up to the stage and accept the Oscar.

“It is pure adrenaline and energy. And get yourself to the stage so you can get your 45 seconds out,” Anderson-Lopez said.

Her father says the road to her success wasn't easy. He recalls the days when her dream was just brewing. He knew his little girl would make it big. He just didn't know how.

"From the time she was very little, Kristen was one of those people who did everything well,” he said.

Anderson-Lopez says she's happy to make her parents and hometown proud. She has a few projects lined up to keep her busy so that this won’t be her last visit to the Academy Awards.
