Charlotte Fire Department Trains with Hazmat Robot

Posted: Updated:
Charlotte, N.C. (WJZY) --Charlotte Fire Department has two team members that are not quite human. They're robots.
Department leaders say the robots are used for everything from looking at a suspicious package to checking the danger levels of a chemical spill.
Charlotte Fire Department is one of only five regional response teams in North Carolina. The team has been called out as far as the Outer Banks.
The Department received its first robot in 2011 and a second one in 2012 right before the DNC.
The Fire Department robot team has training twice a month to stay up to date with the maintenance and operation of the machines.
