CMS superintendent Heath Morrison answered the question many parents want to know. Will their kids get a spring break? Students missed February 13 and 14th because of snow. The board voted to not let students make up those two days. The days will now be considered annual leave days.

Morrison says there's only so much the school system can do because of state rules dealing with how much time kids need to be in school.

"It leaves you a very small window of days to actually build in for make-up days. That is not going to change until we get further calender flexibility," Morrison said.

The board also decided April 14 and 15 will change from annual leave days to teacher work days…

The new plan will affect hourly paid employees like bus drivers, secretaries, teacher assistants and cafeteria workers. Charles Smith is a teacher in Charlotte and says he's concerned about what the missed days mean for some workers.

"In the process of all these snow days, our hourly employees lost money, and there should be a way for our school system to bring them in for additional training to recoup that lost funds, because they usually are our lowest paid employees and times are tough," Smith said.

Morrison says there's a solution to that issue.

"We are going to send out a communication where we would bring them in for two days in the summer for training on a multitude for different issues so that they would be able to get back those hours," he said.

There is a catch to the plan. If students miss more days because of snow and ice, the make up days will come out of their spring break.
