Graham On Senate Race: "I'm Going To Win"

Posted: Updated:

The race for Lindsey Graham's third term as US Senator has officially heated up. And Graham makes it clear what he thinks the end result will be.

“I’m going to win,” said Graham.

Senator Graham has spent this week opening campaign offices around the state for his June primary. He faces five other GOP challengers. In order to win the primary without a run-off, he has to win by more than 50 percent.

“It’s not about how many people run, it’s what we have to offer,” said Graham. “At the end of the day I got to convince people that if you reelect me I’m the best bet for South Carolina in terms of being an effective conservative voice for our state.

But not everyone agrees that Senator Graham is in fact conservative.

GOP challenger, Bill Connor, spent $7,500 dollars for his first attack on Graham, linking him to Hilary Clinton.

But Graham didn’t try to hide his feelings for Clinton.

“I don’t dislike Secretary Clinton, I think her policies have failed,” said Graham.

But when it comes to the race in June he has a substantial monetary edge over his challengers.

Graham has over $7.6 million in his campaign war chest while his closest competitor has $255,000.

But will money be enough?

“I think one of the things Senator Graham has to deal with is that, just like some democrats he’s too conservative, for some republicans, he’s too liberal,” said Winthrop Political Science Chair Jennifer Disney.
