Today is a special day for McKaya.

The fifth grader is getting a new wardrobe, all for free, thanks to the
Assistance League.

"I want to thank the people for giving me new clothes cause like my mom, she couldn't usually afford it and they helped me out," McKaya said.

McKaya and 24 other kids received new shirts, pants, shoes and toiletries. It's part of Operation School Bell, which helps children in need.

Kathleen Rackley is a  volunteer at Assistance League. As a former teacher, she knows the impact this program can have.

"We had one little girl, who when given her grooming kit, which is one of the things we give them, had a toothbrush in it and she was so excited about the toothbrush, because now she didn't have to share a toothbrush with other family members," said Rackley.

McKaya was happy to get her new clothes, so was her mom. "She was glad because she didn't, she said she couldn't afford it with all of the bills."

It’s something she says, she will never forget.
