Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

According to police, a dangerous scene unfolded in Jefferson Hospital overnight. Police say that a prisoner being treated for injuries sustained during arrest two days prior suddenly attacked the officers escorting him and tried to escape. The incident happened around 12:30 p.m., police say.

Investigators say that the prisoner's hand cuffs were taken off in preparation for the procedure, and the inmate suddenly sprang to action and jumped out of bed. He started to attack the officers and was tasered twice by a 6th District officer.

The two officers suffered minor lacerations to their face. They were also exposed to the suspect's blood & fluids from his catheter because he was swinging his catheter around during the attempted escape.

This inmate, authorities tell FOX 29, has had 12 priors for assault.
