Snow And Ice Make Valentine’s Day Deliveries Tough For Local Florists

Posted: Updated:
Local florists had to bring in extra manpower and work extra hours to make deliveries in the ice and snow on Valentine’s Day. Workers at area flower shops tell My Fox Carolinas more people waited until the last minute to place orders for their sweethearts.

Harrisburg Florist was open through the bad weather on Wednesday and Thursday, but manager Lori Smith says the florist got bombarded with calls from customers placing orders on Friday, Valentine’s Day.

Lori Smith says, “With the snow, there was nobody around yesterday or Wednesday, but we were here making all the orders. But today (Valentine’s Day) I think everybody’s ready to get out, and they’re all calling.” She says people usually place orders before Valentine’s Day, but this year was different.

Delivery driver Bill Harrison says, “Today (Valentine’s Day) it’s a zoo when you get out on the roads. It’s probably ten times worse (than years past).”

And flower deliveries on Valentine’s Day are not exactly something that can wait.

“People want them today. They expect them today, and we don’t want anybody getting in trouble,” Harrison says.

Harrisburg Florist did some deliveries early on Wednesday, if customers wanted that service.

Customer Ted Barcomb says, “It’s always very important, and you don’t want to find out what it’s like not to have done anything on Valentine’s Day, so you definitely have to make sure it’s taken care of.”

“It feels good to be out helping people, surprising people, feeling other people’s, I guess, love, said delivery driver Evan Kern.
