I joined My Fox Carolinas in July as a DJ. No not a disc jockey, but a digital journalist. I love being able to report, shoot and edit all of my stories. I'm a proud graduate of Elon University with a degree in Broadcast and New Media. During my time in college, I was a reporter for the award-winning newscast, Elon Local News.

The Mecklenburg County’s District Attorney’s office is working with Pat’s Place, a child advocacy group in Charlotte to transform one of their waiting rooms for children. Having to testify can be a daunting and overwhelming experience for anyone. Imagine what it might feel like for a child, whether they’re a victim or a witness to a crime.

Many restaurants and stores closed on Wednesday due to the winter weather conditions. But one place in the university area decided to keep their doors open. Dave Collins walked a few blocks from his home to Farley’s Pizzeria to celebrate his daughter’s fourth birthday with his family.

“We walk up here a lot," he said. "We live in the neighborhood behind here. It’s my daughter’s birthday. We braved the elements and came out here,” Collins said.

The restaurant experienced a decline in customers, but they say business has been better than they expected. They had about 20 pizza deliveries. Karina Hernandez works during the lunch hours. She’s happy with today’s turnout.

Farley's received more than 30 calls on Wednesday. Hernandez says that although the weather conditions are not the safest, they want to be a place that customers can count on. And that’s why Farley’s stays open in rain, sleet and snow.

“People always want a place where they can rely on and I think we’re that place. That they always know that no matter what, we’re gonna be open for them, serving them fresh, and like I said, it’s about being consistent with them."
