Snow Accumulating In Union County

Posted: Updated:
Snow started to fall fast here in Union County just after nine this morning. Within an hour, roads and lawns were covered.

The Union County Sheriff's Office has fielded calls on a number of accidents.

The Department of Transportation in Union County sent out 15 salt trucks once accumulation began. The DOT says they were unable to salt last night and yesterday because they needed at least a thin sheet covering the roads to allow the salt to stick. The problem here is that snow began falling so quick that there has been little to no time for DOT workers to recover from the quick snowfall. Simply put -- it's a mess.

Providence Road stretches for nearly 22 miles from uptown Charlotte to the heart of downtown Waxhaw. Although it is one of the largest primary roads passing through Union County, it is just as dangerous as some secondary roads in the area.

We have seen accidents, cars spun off into ditches and cars stuck not able to make it up the slightest of hills. The Union County Sheriff's office is advising everyone to stay off the roads -- both primary and secondary.

We will continue to follow all weather conditions happening in your area.
