Lenoir, NC -

Sustainable Foothills is a Caldwell County-based non-profit working with businesses to help them cut costs and become more environmentally friendly.

“What it really means is looking at possibly changing out your lighting to make your lighting more efficient so that it saves you money every month,” said Melissa Patton, Sustainable Foothills. “It could be installing a low-flow toilet to cut your water usage, recycling instead of sending items to the landfill.”

The group plans to work with 20 businesses throughout the year.

“We go through with a company with a check list from NC Green Travel and check off…have you made any lighting changes, improving your lighting. Have you done anything with your water, have you assessed your water usage. Those type of things are on the check list for a company to say yes or no, so that they have an opportunity to improve.”
