    Central United Methodist Church in Concord has raised, harvested, and donated 1600 pounds of food since May to the Cooperative Christian Ministry's Food Pantry. The church has a plot of land at the Elma C. Lomax Incubator Farm, and this year's crop has been the most plentiful in three years.

UPDATE: Salisbury police say they have arrested Dajuan Lamont Russell in connection with the shooting. This is the officials statement from the Salisbury Police Department:

On February 10, 2014 at 10:13 pm Salisbury Police Criminal Investigators located Dajaun Lamont Russell at a family member’s residence at 526 E. Fisher St. He was taken into custody without incident. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $ 250,000.00 bond. First appearance was set for 02/11/2014.

A Salisbury High School student was shot this afternoon, according Rowan-Salisbury School System officials. Salisbury Police say 16 year-old Shaleek Williams was shot behind the school, after classes dismissed for the day.

Police have issued a warrant for 17 year-old Dajuan Lamont Russell of 525 East Fisher St. Fisher is wanted on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of firearm on school property and discharging a firearm on school property.

Police say there was a confrontation between two groups including some Salisbury High students at approximately 2:41 pm.

“We believe this incident is related to an altercation that occurred over the weekend," officials said in an email. "One student was shot and is being treated at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center. Two suspects ran from the scene. “Both Salisbury High School and Livingstone College were placed into a lockdown mode during the initial investigation process, but the lockdowns have since been lifted. The school has canceled all activities for Monday night. 

Shortly after the shooting, the hashtag #PrayForShaleek began appearing on Twitter.
