Imagine sipping a cocktail infused with herbs snipped from a rooftop garden, eating a meal prepared by a celebrity chef, and looking at a breathtaking view of the city skyline. And, no, you are not in New York. You are in Uptown Charlotte.

A popular spot in NoDa is getting a menu makeover.

Heist Brewery is a combination beer hall, on-site brewery, and gastropub.

Charlotte restaurant writer Sarah Crosland recently visited Heist to check out the new menu, which features small plate items.

"Our mission has always been for Heist to be a fun experience for our customers," owner Kurt Hogan told Crosland.
"Instead of ordering an entree that you stare down at and eat, we want people to order a few different items to share and talk about with each other."

A couple of the small plates whipped up for Crosland by Executive Chef Rob Masone were the salmon belly tacos and the lamb meatballs.

The meatballs represent a part of the menu called "Farm to Fork".

"We raise our own cattle and lamb," Masone said.

The beef and lamb come from M&M Farms in Oakboro. The livestock is fed with the spent grain from the brewing process at Heist and then the meat is brought back to Heist for use in its dishes.

Heist is also featuring small batch brews on Mondays starting at 4 p.m.

"It's another way for us to be experimental," Hogan said.

Heist is located at 2909 North Davidson in NoDa.
