Concerns about water safety have been circulating throughout Charlotte since the news broke about the illegal chemical dumping.

Mayor Patrick D. Cannon and Utilities Director Barry Gullet said in a press conference Friday evening that the water is completely safe.

The PCB contamination was discovered in the plant; only trace amounts made it out of the plant.

A task force has been assembled to investigate the matter and prosecute those involved with the dumping.

There is no estimated cost to the city. Right now the focus is continuing efforts to restore the plant back to full operation.

Illegal dumping is a felony offense under the clean water act.

My Fox Carolinas will have more of this story at 10 pm.
