Aquarium Adds To List Of Attractions Near Concord Mills

Posted: Updated:
Some new creatures were delivered to the SEALIFE Aquarium at Concord Mills Thursday. The aquarium is now home to six blacknose sharks brought in from the Florida Keys.

9-year-old Kiera Gregg says, "I want to see how the sharks grow and how long it would take them to be fully grown."

Officials at the aquarium are hoping to draw in tourists by offering guests views of a massive ocean tank, an expansive underwater tunnel and around 5,000 sea creatures.

Kiera's mom, Shandi Gregg, says, "I think it's beautiful. I think it's amazing. I think the kids are going to learn a lot. They have a lot of interactive computers that they can play around with and learn from."

The aquarium is unique to the area.

"Right now our oceans are in kind of like a war between humans and ocean life, and it seems like not enough people know about it," says Shandi Gregg.

Gregg also says the aquarium should mean major tourism for the area. She says, "I think that means more to Charlotte. It means people coming to Charlotte. People are going to learn things they haven't learned before about the ocean."

The aquarium is one more attraction to add to the list around Concord Mills, including the ZMax Drag Strip, the Great Wolf Lodge, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“You have your shopping. You have your hotels. You have attractions, and obviously the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the big daddy. We're all just thrilled to be working together to make an even larger impact in this area and looking forward to the growth as we go through the years," says Marketing Manager for SEA LIFE Jack Stevenson.

The aquarium will open to the public on February 20.
