The attorneys representing the Ferrell family filed a civil suit against the city of Charlotte and Chief Rodney Monroe. The civil suit was filed in Superior Court in Mecklenburg County Tuesday.

The city attorney of behalf of the city of Charlotte and Chief Rodney Monroe filed a notice requesting this suit be removed to federal court. This action is a nuance in the case but means the jury members could be selected from a different pool.

Right now if the case stays in Superior Court, the jury will be picked within Mecklenburg County.

If it is filed to federal court, the jury could be chosen from a larger region. Experts say this could delay the process.

The case will stay in Superior Court if nothing happens.
