How To Keep Your Pipes From Bursting During Freezing Temps

Posted: Updated:
The Charlotte Fire Department warns about the danger of freezing water pipes and fire sprinkler systems in the cold weather.

Some apartment complexes are asking their residents to keep the temperature at 60 degrees or above and keep cabinet doors open so the warm air will reach the water pipes and fire sprinkler systems. Some businesses have emptied their fire sprinkler system to avoid pipe bursts.

The Fire Department says if the business has emptied its system, someone must stay watch at the business in case a fire breaks out.

The department urges people living or commuting in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area to sign up for Charmeck alerts for severe weather alerts. The website is Charmeckalerts.org
