It’s an unlikely way to support area schools, but inside this little yellow building are hundreds of pieces of clothing to be sold.

This thrift store project has been put together by communities, unlike most non-profits that usually live off grants. The money raised through this thrift shop will be donated directly to schools in Shelby because the kids need it.

The charity provides after school programs to prevent students from dropping out of school.

“They work with these students to make better grades. Some of them have social problems and this helps bring them out of their shell so they have better social skills,” says Community Resource Coordinator Merenda Hendrick.

This store has been successful since it opened last month and there are plans to open a few more, so they can keep their mission alive.

“We’re kind of picky about our stuff. Everything that's donated we go through and we don't put everything out just the best of the stuff. The stuff that doesn't pass our critique we donate.”
