The Better Business Bureau in Charlotte released a report Wednesday with the types of companies for which they get the most complaints. The top five on the list include auto dealers of both new and used cars, cable and satellite companies, collection agencies, and auto repair services.
Lynne Mann of South Charlotte says she’s had problems in the past with cable and satellite providers.
“The price I was quoted on the phone and the price when the guy came to install it, was completely different," she said. "It (the price) was double.”
Marlene Rowell of Charlotte says cable providers have given her issues in the past.
"I had an issue where I thought my bill was just too high for what I was getting. They had some specials going on, so I called in to try and get one of the specials, and they wouldn’t give it to me, so I cancelled my service and then literally two days later I got a call asking me to sign back up for that service.”
The BBB says most of the complaints center around people not being billed for the amount they were quoted, repair jobs that don’t actually fix the problem and collection agencies calling when people are at work or late at night.
Tom Bartholomy, President of the Better Business Bureau in Charlotte, says anybody can have a complaint filed against them.
"It’s not saying only go to a company that has zero complaints because not many of those exist. But look at how they’ve resolved those complaints, and do they work to resolve those complaints?”
You can check the BBB database on the organization’s website (http://charlotte.bbb.org/) to find out if a business has had any complaints, the specific type of complaints, and whether they’ve been resolved. Also, be sure to have proper documentation and records of your correspondence with businesses and services.
