Thin Mint lovers rejoice! Girl Scout cookie season is almost here. Saturday was the Girl Scout cookie mega drop where truckloads of cookies were dropped off ahead of the cookie-selling season. Over the next few days, 110,000 cases of Girl Scout cookies will go out to the troops throughout Central Texas. Organizers estimate that 2.2 million boxes will be sold over the six week cookie selling period. Girl Scouts of Central Texas hope to raise $8 million to fund Girl Scout programs.
Lynelle McKay tells FOX 7 that this time of year means much more than just selling cookies. "We're trying to teach girls all about financial literacy. We think that's one of the main skills we can do with girl development and girl leadership development, to be able to prepare our girls to be financially literate."
Customers will also be able to buy boxes to send to U.S. military troops as part of 'Operation Cookie.' The cookie sale starts Wednesday and lasts through February.
