Police Beef Up Security Ahead of Playoff Game

Posted: Updated:
With the playoff game between the Panthers and 49ers just days away, police officers are increasing their presence on the city's streets.

A big game means big crowds.

“You know it’s been too long since we’ve had this kind of excitement,” said CMPD officer, Mike Campagna.

But big crowds could also bring booze at the ball game.

“We know that trash talk is part of the game and people will have high emotions and it’s a high stake game so add that to alcohol so be real cautious and drink responsibly,” said Campagna.

Uniformed officers and private security will patrol the stadium.

“We don’t want anyone’s fun to be ruined by a fight or dispute. But things could creep up before you even get your seat,” said Campagna.

“One thing is getting our cars towed. We want our visitors to be real conscious. You don’t want to park at meters. There are some people that will direct you and take your money and then your car is towed. Park in surface lots and places that say event parking,” said Campagna.

Cops say the big game will draw fans but also crooks.

“Make sure when you leave your car to hide, lock, take. Take your keys and lock your car.”

Investigators say also look out for fake tickets and scalpers.

“If you don’t have tickets, buy them through the ticket office or a reputable vendor. If you buy it on the streets, it’s on your own risk," said Campagna said. "We’ll investigate each claim as it comes up. We know there is a national circuit of counterfeit tickets of team that do well. We’ll ask citizens to look out for."
