Flair Says He's Getting Death Threats, Won't Attend Panthers-49ers Game

Posted: Updated:
Ric Flair caused quite a stir with his inspirational speech to the San Francisco 49ers last week. Now the wrestling legend says he’s received death threats from Carolina Panthers fans. The long-time Charlotte resident posted a link to a statement on his Facebook page Thursday stating that he does not plan on attending the playoff game between the Panthers and 49ers at Bank of America on Sunday.

“When the 49ers reached out and WWE asked Ric to jet up there, of course he said yes,” says Melinda Morris Zanoni, Flair’s agent at Legacy Talent and Entertainment, “and he’s friends with a bunch of the 49ers just like he is with the Panthers, Packers, and many other NFL players. But no, Ric does not intend on attending the Panthers vs. 49ers game this weekend.”

Posts on Flair's Facebook page showed fans calling the wrestler a "sell out" and "traitor," among other things. Flair’s representatives say some of the responses he’s gotten from social media are quite intimidating.

“We know fans are passionate about their teams, but some of the choice language we have been receiving is scaring off our interns,” Zanoni said.
