Red Cross Opening Warming Center In Charlotte

Posted: Updated:
Charlotte’s American Red Cross, Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management, and Mecklenburg County have partnered to open a temporary Warming Center for those in the community without heat Monday evening.

According to a tweet from Carolina Region RC, the center will open 8:00 p.m. Monday and stay open until noon Tuesday. People needing to stay warm can come to the Mecklenburg County Homeless Resource Center in uptown Charlotte located on 618 North College Street.

Red Cross workers are opening shelters and warming centers across the country for people affected by the extreme cold and working with local emergency officials to respond if needed as the cold weather moves to the east. Officials report as many as 117 million people are living under dangerous wind chill warnings, advisories and watches.
