"Oh, it’s gonna get crazy stupid here after a little bit,” said John Boswell, who shops at the Mount Holly Food Lion.
Today, he’s stocking up for the icy weather. "Just mainly for the grand-kids, I got enough for us but grand-kids need a little bit of, they need their juice, they need the milk, they need this and that so that's what I come for," he said.
John is not alone. Lines were long as customers tried to beat the after-work rush. Bread shelves were emptying and residents were stocking up on their favorite winter snacks. All weekend and most of today, customers have been out at the Mount Holly Food Lion stocking up on eggs and milk, getting ready for tonight's big freeze.
Mount Holly Food Lion manager, Travis Speagle, estimates about there were about 1,500 customers per day this weekend.
The good news for customers? Speagle says, "We are a local company so our trucks have been on time. We've gotten everything we've been needing. So it hasn't been an issue here as of yet."
John was happy to grab some of his favorite foods, especially chili for the “chilly” weather.
"You gotta have cream for sour cream, you gotta have that, and just the regular stuff, soups are great, chicken soup, great, chili, great, you know stuff like that is always good."
